Trails and Tales: The Ohio-Erie Canal (America 250 - Ohio Special Event)
Join us for a presentation about the history of the OHIO-ERIE CANAL, presented by an Interpretive Park Ranger with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This canal system was a 19th century engineering marvel that transformed the state into a commercial powerhouse. The Ohio-Erie Canal connected Lake Erie to the Ohio River, linking Ohio to global markets via the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Hand-dug, the canal included many features the laid the groundwork for Ohio’s economic and population growth. Additionally, photos and artifacts from our museum collection will be on display at Historic Hall.

Home Days Jail & Bail Booth

We’re looking for new “inmates” for a fun event during this year’s Home Days! The community will contribute to your bail, and the prisoner who raises the most money will avoid serving time in the Home Days jail cell. We promise all sentences will be short, and your time served will make a big difference to the Independence Historical Society. If you’d like to help us out, please turn yourself in at independencehistory@gmail.com.

Memorial Day breakfast includes: 3 muffins (red, white & blue) and choice of coffee, hot tea or bottled water.
Available at Historic Hall 8 AM til 11 AM on Memorial Day during the ceremony in the Square.
Presale is through May 18th. They will be available at the door while supplies last on Memorial Day, May 26th, for $1 more.

Join Mrs. Claus for stories, treats, and a craft-along with a tour of the historic Bramley House. Children ages 4-10 and accompanying adults: $10 for each person (adults enjoy treats during story time). Photo ops inside with Mrs. Claus and outside in our antique sleigh!
