Do you own a century home in Independence?
If your home has reached its 100th birthday, we’d like to help you celebrate!
With our Century Homes program, you can show pride in your Independence home by letting others know that it was built 100 or more years ago.
Century homes are a significant link to the rich heritage of Independence. Our goal is to recognize every century home in our city and to encourage the owners of these homes to celebrate their significance.
We would like to offer you a free certificate of recognition and vinyl window cling to display in a front window. Additionally, we will provide information about how you can purchase a century home plaque to display inside or outside.
Photos of century homes and owners’ names will be displayed at Historic Hall.
Order a plaque for your historic Independence home
Show pride in your Independence Century Home and let others know that your 100-year-old (or older) house is registered with the Independence Historical Society. Display a personalized plaque on the front of your house.
The plaque is available for purchase by owners of Independence Century Homes who have completed the Century Home Application (including providing proof of ownership and the home’s age, and photos of all sides of the home) and have received notice of approval by the Independence Historical Society.
The 5"x7" plaque is weather-proof and prominently features the year that the house was built in black numbers on a polished brass-colored surface. It includes the year the home was built, as well as the year in which the home became registered. The brass-colored plate is mounted on a glossy black background and includes drilled corner holes for easy attachment to an interior or exterior wall. The total size is 6"x8". The plaque can also be framed.
